Format Factory

for Windows

Free|V5.22.0.0

by Free Time

Format Factory converts almost any media file on Windows: video to MP4, MKV or AVI, audio to MP3 or FLAC, images to JPG or WebP, and PDFs to editable text. It also shrinks files, repairs damaged videos and rips DVDs. Version 5.22.0.0 is a 162 MB installer from developer Free Time with a 62-language interface.

About Format Factory

Format Factory is a media converter that handles video, audio, image and document formats in one program. You add files to a queue, choose an output format and profile, and it works through the whole batch unattended. It has been a fixture on Windows PCs since 2008 because it covers the odd formats other converters skip.

Video output covers MP4, AVI, MKV, MOV, WMV, FLV and WebM with adjustable resolution, bitrate and codec, plus device presets for phones and consoles. Audio extraction pulls the soundtrack from a video into MP3, AAC, WAV or FLAC. Image conversion includes resizing and rotation, and the reduce-size mode recompresses a file to a target size without changing its format.

Beyond conversion, the program repairs video and audio files with broken headers or truncated endings, backs up a DVD to a digital file, converts a PDF to TXT, DOC or HTML, and pulls the images out of a PDF. A screen recorder and a basic video joiner and clipper are included too.

The installer is about 162 MB and runs on Windows 10 and 11. Format Factory is free; the setup wizard may show optional third-party offers, so read each screen and decline what you do not want. Everything is processed on your own PC, so large files never leave the machine.
