Ymir

Ymir is a Sega Saturn emulator that runs Saturn disc images on modern computers. It focuses on faithful reproduction of the Saturn hardware, automatically detecting the IPL BIOS and game region so users can load and play their disc images with minimal setup.

The project is free and open-source, developed by StrikerX3 with contributions from the community and released under the GNU GPL v3. Binaries are published openly for each platform, and the full source code is available for anyone to review or build.

Ymir emphasizes responsiveness and control. It supports multiple disc image formats, low input lag fullscreen playback with variable refresh rate, up to two controllers with several controller types, customizable keybindings, backup memory management, rewind, fast-forward, and frame stepping, plus a work-in-progress debugger.

The emulator is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and FreeBSD. It does not include Saturn games or BIOS files; users must supply their own legally obtained files, and no personal information is collected while the emulator is in use.
